Overview

Sociologists study people’s lives, their behaviours and interactions as well as the societies and communities in which they exist. If you want to explore how our everyday lives are shaped by factors such as class, gender and ethnicity then studying Sociology will help you find out more.

Details

Our A Level Sociology students follow the AQA specification. There are three modules which cover the influence of families, education, beliefs and crime on both individuals and society as a whole.

Our Sociology students benefit from a close partnership with Sheffield University and are able to take part in tailored lectures and seminars to support their studies as well as visits to the university campus to gain an insight into learning at HE institutions.

Sociology students have also had the opportunity to take part in national research projects giving them a detailed understanding of research methods and ethics.

A number of specifications will be changing and prospectus entries are based on information we have to date. This means that course content may be subject to change.

What can I do next?

An A Level in Sociology will help you to understand how people are influenced by different factors. You will gain valuable skills in research and information analysis which will help equip you for a range of professional occupations. Areas particularly suited to sociological study are those which involve an understanding of people and social relationships such as social work, health care, education, journalism and the public services. Sociology is highly valued by universities and employers because of the broad range of skills involved in studying the subject.
