Criminology is the study of crime and criminal behaviour.

Details

You will learn about different types of crime and how perceptions of crime may differ.  You will also gain an understanding of why people commit crime and how the criminal justice system works.  You will study real life situations and cases and apply criminological theories to evaluate he effectiveness of social control and criminal justice policies.

Themes covered are:

You will look at the different types of crime, public perceptions of crime, media influence and will develop an understanding of why some crimes go unreported to the police.

Criminological theories, why people commit crimes, how laws have changes over time and the difference between crime and deviance.

You will study the path from crime scene to court room, look at the process of prosecution and you'll review criminal cases. You'll also look at crime and punishment.
