COVID-19 Vaccines

The Covid-19 vaccination gives you the best protection against COVID-19. We strongly encourage you to consider getting the vaccination as soon as possible. This will keep you, our Sixth Form community and the wider community safer.

We know that the pandemic has had a significant impact on our local community and want to support the safest return of students to the Sixth Form in September. Anyone who gets COVID-19 can become seriously ill or have long-term effects (long COVID). The COVID-19 vaccines are the best way to protect yourself and others.

The vaccines help to:

  • reduce your risk of getting seriously ill from COVID-19
  • reduce your risk of catching or spreading COVID-19
  • protect against COVID-19 variants

The 1st dose should give you some protection from 3 or 4 weeks after you've had it. But you need 2 doses for stronger and longer-lasting protection.

COVID-19 vaccines are now available to everyone aged 16 or over.

The vaccines currently available are given in 2 doses. You usually have the 2nd dose 8 to 12 weeks after the 1st dose.

If you're aged 18 or over (or will turn 18 within 3 months) you can:

People aged 16 and 17 will be contacted by a local NHS service such as a GP surgery to book their vaccination appointments. Some walk-in COVID-19 vaccination sites are offering the vaccine to people aged 16 and 17. You can check if a site is available near you. Find a walk-in COVID-19 vaccination site

Some local sites offering vaccines are:

  • Sheffield NHS, Longley Lane, Sheffield, S5 7JN (This site is for these age groups: 17 yrs 9 months and over)
  • Upwell Pharmacy, 119-121 Upwell Street, Sheffield, S4 8AN (This site is for these age groups: 16 and over)
  • Darnall Primary Care Centre, 290 Main Road, Darnall, Sheffield, S9 4QH (This site is for these age groups: 16 and over)

There is a chance you might still get or spread COVID-19 even if you have a vaccine, so it's important to follow advice about how to avoid catching and spreading COVID-19.

The College will also be providing lateral flow testing kits for all students and offering on-site testing for all students to support the safe return to college for our community.

We look forward to welcoming you back in September.

Stay safe.
