From Longley Park to Medicine: Yann’s Inspiring Journey
We are proud to celebrate the achievements of Yann, one of our outstanding students, who has progressed from studying the Level 3 Extended Diploma in Applied Science at Longley Park Sixth Form to pursuing MMBS Medicine with a Gateway Year at the prestigious University of East Anglia. Yann’s journey is a testament to his hard work, determination, and the strong foundation provided by our Sixth Form.
I joined Longley Sixth Form Academy after studying at UTC Sheffield City Centre, and it has been one of the most valuable chapters in my education so far. At Longley, I studied Applied Science, a course that really deepened my interest in the subject and prepared me well for my next steps. I was lucky to be taught by some incredible staff, especially Ben Smith and the whole tutorial team, who constantly supported and encouraged me to push myself beyond what I thought I could achieve. Their belief in me gave me the confidence to aim higher and keep working hard, even when things felt challenging.
One of the best parts of my experience at Longley was the supportive environment. The teachers and tutorial staff always made time to listen and guide me, whether it was with coursework, revision, or even just motivation when I needed it most. I also valued the opportunities to be recognised for my progress and effort—it made me feel like the hard work I was putting in really mattered and gave me the drive to keep going.
My advice to anyone starting at Longley is simple: be yourself and follow your dreams. Even if your goals feel unrealistic at first, you’ll be surprised at what you can achieve with determination and the right support. Don’t be afraid to aim high because your time here will give you the foundation you need to succeed.
Thanks to my time at Longley, I am now studying Gateway Year Medicine at the University of East Anglia, and I’m really excited about working towards my dream of becoming a doctor. Longley Sixth Form played such an important role in helping me get here, and I’ll always be grateful for the guidance, encouragement, and belief my teachers showed in me.
