In carrying out this duty, we work to the following expectations:
We all have a statutory duty to safeguard students and promote their welfare. If you have any concerns about any young person or feel that something may be troubling them you should tell a member of the safeguarding team straight away, particularly if you have serious concerns about physical, emotional, sexual abuse or neglect or any other concerns referenced in our Safeguarding Policy.
Issues such as a student’s appearance, personal hygiene, risk taking lifestyle/behaviour etc. should also be a reported to a member of the safeguarding team. We would rather have too many small referrals than miss a worrying situation.
If you think the matter is very serious and may be related to a Safeguarding/Child Protection concern you must talk to a member of the safeguarding team immediately.
Please be aware that during the weekend and college holiday periods the safeguarding team may not be able to respond to emails or telephone queries raised as the college may be closed.
However, if you need any advice or support in the meantime there is a wealth of information available on the website about resources and services that may be helpful until you are able to speak to someone.
If you have any concerns about the welfare of a child or young person during these times, please contact the Sheffield Safeguarding Hub on 0114 2734855 (24-hour service). If you think a child or young person is in immediate danger, please call the Police on 999 at any time.
If you are a student and are worried and feel unsafe then you can get help from Childline, a free, private, confidential service where you can be you. You can chat online or on the phone, 08001111, 24 hours a day.

Operation Encompass
Operation Encompass is an initiative which enhances communication between the police and schools where a young person is a risk of domestic abuse. The purpose of the information sharing is to ensure schools and colleges have more information to support the safeguarding of young people. By knowing that a young person has had this experience, the school or college is in a better position to understand and be supportive to the young person’s needs and possible change in behaviours. Operation Encompass will compliment existing safeguarding procedures. Please see the link below for further details.
