Important Updates for Students of Longley Park Sixth Form

The headlines:

  • Following the snowfall over the weekend, travel safe tomorrow, give yourself extra time to get to college and wear appropriate warm clothing. We are open.
  • In line with new government guidelines, from tomorrow, everyone will be required to wear a face covering around the college site.

Please do make sure that fellow students know about these messages and spread the message.

Weather

Over the weekend, there has been some significant snowfall in areas of Sheffield. Please be mindful of this when travelling in. Currently, there are no plans to shut academies across the trust. Safety is the most important factor. The college will be open as normal for students.

COVID-19 Controls

On Saturday, the Prime Minister announced new temporary measures following the emergence of the Omicron variant of COVID-19 in the UK. These new measures will be introduced as a precaution to slow down the spread of the variant. Today, the DfE have announced that face coverings should be worn in communal areas in all settings by staff, visitors and students, unless they are exempt. If you are exempt, you are able to collect a green lanyard from reception to demonstrate this – evidence should be provided to support this.

From tomorrow (Monday 29th), we will be asking everyone (unless exempt) to wear face coverings at all times when moving around the building and when in communal areas. This includes: corridors, the plaza, canteen and ILC. When seated in the ILC, canteen and classrooms, face coverings can be removed. This is only while seated, and as you go to move around (either within the area or out of the area) you need will need to put your face covering on again.

These measures will continually be reviewed. It is likely that there will be changes to these as the days and weeks go by, but we need your support as a student community to make this transition into greater control measures.

To support the roll out of these measures, the following is planned:

  • Staff will be handing out face coverings to all students on entry to the site tomorrow morning (so, if you don’t have one, don’t worry).
  • Additional face coverings will be available from the ILC for students throughout the day.
  • We will put a box of face coverings in each classroom.

This is a good time to remind you about twice-weekly lateral flow tests. These are available from the main reception. We will also be putting a table of these in the plaza for you to take a set if you need one.

If you haven’t already, you are encouraged to take up the offer of the vaccine, including boosters. Vaccines are our best defence against COVID-19. They help protect young people and adults, and benefit those around them. Vaccination makes people less likely to catch the virus and less likely to pass it on.
