Do you enjoy exploring key events in world history, analysing sources for information and considering the impact of previous events on our current society? A Level History is a fascinating combination of these approaches.
Details
Our A Level History students follow the AQA specification. There are two exam units which offer an in-depth analysis of the history of the British Empire (1857-1967) and the French Revolution. There is also a coursework module which allows students to explore a chosen aspect of the Black Civil Rights movement in the USA.
Our History students benefit from a close partnership with Sheffield University and are able to take part in bespoke lectures and seminars to support their studies.
History students are also able to take part in our Humanities visit to the Houses of Parliament and to a range of museum exhibitions relevant to specific areas of the course.
A number of specifications will be changing and prospectus entries are based on information we have to date. This means that course content may be subject to change.

This course is assessed through two exams (80%) and a coursework module (20%)
What can I do next?
An A Level in History provides an excellent platform from which students can progress to a wide range of degree courses including law, politics, archaeology and the social sciences. There are also many opportunities for students to specialise in further historical study. Students who have completed A Level History at Longley Park have gone on to have successful careers in law, journalism, business, education and many other sectors.
Entry requirements. Studying History helps students to develop excellent analytical skills and the ability to communicate clearly and effectively. These skills are much sought after in the workplace.
