What an incredible opportunity for the students at the sixth form yesterday as we were selected to host The Prince's Responsible Business Network: Seeing Is Believing Visit 2023! This event is known for bringing together influential business leaders who are interested in understanding and engaging with local communities.
The list of businesses and organisations involved provided showcases a diverse range of industries and sectors, including finance (Aviva), energy (BP), mining (BHP Group), construction (Barratt Developments plc, Henry Boot, Wates Group), retail (Bettys & Taylor Group Ltd, IKEA), technology (CityFibre, Worldline), logistics (Loadhog, Royal Mail Group), recruitment (Michael Page), education (Sheffield Hallam University), architecture (HLM Architects), and the cutlery industry (The Company of Cutlers in Hallamshire).
The speed dating-style setting organised by our Business Teacher, Berni Edge, was an innovative and effective way for students to interact with the business leaders. It allowed each student to have a brief conversation with each delegate, enabling them to gain insights, ask questions, and learn from the experiences of these influential individuals.
Events like these can be incredibly valuable for students as they provide opportunities for networking, learning about different industries, understanding the skills and qualities required for success in the business world, and potentially even exploring internship or mentorship opportunities.
It's wonderful to see sixth forms and businesses collaborating in this way to provide students with real-world exposure and connections. Such initiatives help bridge the gap between academia and industry, preparing students for their future careers and fostering a sense of community engagement.
