Hello again Longley! I’m your elected Member of Youth Parliament, filling you in on some of my recent work and plans for the remainder of this year.
Since I last updated the blog, we have created a youth survey for those of a black or ethnic minority background and have a Special Educational Need and/or disability so we get young people of all backgrounds the correct provisions they need for their own personal progression and future life skills. The existing provisions are to be challenged in their efficiency to be up to performing to enhance young people's potential, regardless of their background. In addition to this response, colleges and I will be holding an event in the City Centre around July, where you can have fun, listen to our proposals, engage with our team, and get yourself involved! So, keep an eye on the date which will be posted soon.
I am still representing all young people on a regional basis and will be attending a national youth conference to keep discussions around issues important in our city, and as always will follow up with debating in the House of Commons in November. For now, I am taking my time to challenge the local decision makers to ensure young people are well heard and represented, some of the issues regarding, provision accessibility, food poverty, the cost-of-living crisis, mental health, and educational reform. Do you have a topic of concern? Make sure to get it touch.
As we approach the end of the academic year, I reflect on all the opportunities I have gained attending Longley Park, and I thank everyone through the sixth form who not only elected me but provided me with overwhelming response on where I should use my role to be a true force for change.
Although I now progress onto university, your voices will still be heard as I am still your Youth MP and take all young people's voice incredibly seriously, so with that I urge you to contact myself and your other elected bodies, and to continue shouting out about what concerns you on both a local and regional level.
Thank you, Longley Park, for a great experience and allowing myself and peers to be encouraged in an environment where political engagement is taken as a priority.
Remember to keep up to date with your local representatives and keep actively having your say.
It’s been a pleasure Longley Park!
Muneerah is now successfully studying at The University of Sheffield! Hopefully we will see Muneerah soon in the sixth form as she supports the elections for the next generation of Sheffield Youth Parliament.
