Hello, again, Longley Park! Firstly, a massive welcome to our new year one students; I hope you are all enjoying your time here.
Let me introduce myself, I’m Muneerah, a second-year student and a member of the Youth Parliament representing Sheffield. I stand and voice your issues at the House of Commons and to decision-makers all around the country.
After recently being re-elected, I have dedicated my time to tackling critical issues in our areas and raising them with decision-makers, campaigning for change and meeting with like-minded others.
This Summer, I have dedicated part of my time to working with SEND (Special Educational Needs and Disabilities). Young people: I attended Youth Clubs and provisions around Yorkshire and Humber to investigate how they see themselves, their identity and how their youth clubs and schools impact them, which has proved to be extremely rewarding, and I look forward to continuing.
Also, within the last few days, I met with the Tobacco Control Board and talked about the impacts of young people smoking along with vaping, creating posters, statistics and surveys to understand how to help with this issue.
As well as cabinet meetings and meetings with councillors, I’m continuing my work and look forward to YouthCon in October and sitting in the House of Commons in November!
As always, feel free to approach me in sixth form about my work and how I can help you in my role.
