This qualification is a two-year, full-time study programme giving an in-depth study of the health and social care sector. It supports progression to health and social care related degrees or employment. The content of this qualification includes a variety of content which is appropriate for those interested in working in the health and social care sector. In addition to the knowledge, understanding and skills that underpin study of the health and social care sector, this qualification gives learners experience of the breadth and depth that will prepare them for further study in the sector.
Amongst others, during the two years, learners will study the following mandatory units:
• Anatomy and Physiology for Health and Social Care
• Human Lifespan Development
• Working in Health and Social Care
• Meeting Individual Care and Support Needs
• Principles of Safe Practice in Health and Social Care
• Enquiries into Current Research in Health and Social Care
• Promoting Public Health
• Work Experience in Health and Social Care
Learners can also benefit from opportunities for deep learning where they are able to make connections among units and select areas of interest for detailed study.

Examination, assignments and work placement observation.
This qualification is equivalent to three A Levels, meaning that learners will be fully prepared for a range of health and social care degree programmes. Learners have opportunity to go on to study degrees including Midwifery and Nursing, Social Work, Occupational Therapy, Health and Social Care. Radiography, Paramedic Science, Podiatry. In addition to this, the course also excels in preparing learners for employment within various roles within the health and social care sector. There are many opportunities during the two years which enable learners to practice developing key employability skills as well as providing key knowledge and understanding about different roles within the sector. Key interpersonal skills such as communicating, working collaboratively, negotiating and influencing, self-presentation are all incorporated, and learners get opportunity to undertake a work placement opportunity during the course which further enhances the chance to develop these key skills.
