Sociology is a demanding and rigorous A level which helps students understand the different forces that shape individuals and society. Students are required to learn about a wide range of perspectives and then analyse and evaluate these both in discussion and through longer written essays. A Level in Sociology is very good preparation for university, where strong essay writing skills are important. It will prepare you for further study in a wide variety of humanities and social science degree courses. It is regarded as a demanding and rigorous A level which combines well with any other combination of subjects. Universities recognise that Sociology A level provides students with a very good foundation in social, political and policy knowledge. Sociology students go on to a wide range of jobs in policing, research and civil service as well as taking jobs in the service sector.
