You will study 2 different pathways:
Supporting Teaching and Learning
You will cover units focusing on supporting children and young people in schools as a teaching assistant including schools as organisations, assessment for learning and supporting maths and English. At the end of the qualification you will be qualified as a Level 3 Teaching Assistant
Applied General Certificate Early Year Childcare and Education
You will cover units and develop knowledge and understanding of child development, education and care including an understanding of childcare services, educational frameworks and roles and responsibilities within childcare settings.
You can also choose to study 2 alternative pathways from this qualification:
1. Supporting Teaching and learning only - this will lead to employment as a Teaching Assistant or
2. Applied General Certificate Early Years Childcare and Education alongside two other single A Levels or BTEC equivalents
Observation, portfolio, written assignments + tasks and 200 hours of placement across school settings
The full Children and Young People: Care and Education programme is equivalent to 2 A Levels and will lead to a Foundation Degree or employment:
● The Supporting Teaching and Learning Diploma is equivalent to 1 A level and would support progression to employment
● The Applied General Certificate in Early Years Childcare and Education is equivalent to 1 A level and would ideally be studied alongside other Level 3 qualifications leading to Higher Education or employment
